  1. You told me
    you sent me
    a message on
    the wires —
    a telegraphed
    story that tells me
    you’re tired —
but all I can see here
    is the moon
    on an angle,
    a light in the night
    as the evening
    expires.

  2. Bud Hunt says:

    Past Lense

A bright shaft of moonlight lit my way through the darkened house this morning.
    A path amidst the darkness.

Old light, eight minutes out from the Sun, took a bounce off the Moon and shone through my backyard window.
    A little while after.

    The past
    lights up
    the present.

    That’s how it always is,
    I guess.
What happened earlier has lots to say
    to us
about what’s going on right now.

But it can be hard to see.

And maybe even the source of that light,
Eight minutes plus a little while after, has gone dark.
    Obliterated.
    Finished.
And this is all we’ll ever get.

    Eight minutes
    (Plus a little while after)
    on.
    It’ll just
    go
    out.

I should look hard while I still can.
