Had a short visit the other morning with monika, who’s trying something new ((Or, really, quite old, perhaps.)) just up the road from where I work and down the road from where I live. I can’t quite sum up her work in a one sentence “this is what she’s doing” statement – but I can say that she and her students are exploring something important. They’ve been on a journey for a few years now that’s leading them to some interesting spaces. #

And I’m looking very forward to hearing from her and them on this month’s CLN Webinar next Tuesday, November 15th, at 3:30pm Mountain. You should come, too. #

On a semi-related note, I just had to share with you these words monika wrote recently in response to something I said back here a week or so ago. #

i think we compromise too much be seeking proof for things.
what if we experimented more with a culture of trust.
that people are good right now.
that you are fine today…. let’s just start being/doing more of you. #

Learning 2.0: A Colorado Conversation 2010

I’m looking very much forward to tomorrow’s 3rd annual Learning 2.0: A Colorado Conversation, taking place at Loveland High School, just one town over from my home. I’m pumped about the event for several reasons. For starters – I’m not an organizer of the event this year – the fine folks at Loveland HS and the Thompson School District have grabbed the reins and put together what looks to be a fine day of learning and conversation with folks around the region. I always enjoy spending time in thoughtful conversation with folks in my own area. And tomorrow, I get to be a participant. (Global’s good – but local’s where the unexplored potential of the read/write web for teaching and learning lies.) I’m hoping that next year’s event is handled as well as this year’s. #

I’m also looking forward to facilitating a conversation on show & tell, and how purposeful transparency can be pretty darn good professional development. If you want to join in, all the particulars of how to do so are available on the conference wiki. I’ll be presenting at 10:45am Mountain time. Would love to have you join us via the conference Livestream. #

Saturday marks the second time that we’ve been fortunate enough to bring together colleagues from around the state for the little event that we’re calling “Learning 2.0: A Colorado Conversation.” I’ve grown quite fond of the idea of the event, and of the event itself. What’s not to love about a chance to connect with folks and to foster conversation? #

We’re out of room for this year’s conversation at the physical event, but there’s plenty of room online, if you’d care to join us from your computer screen on Saturday. I hope you do, and I hope that you find the conversation good and thought-provoking. Then i hope you do something to foster conversation back at your place, in your community. After all, that’s what Learning 2.0: A Colorado Conversation‘s all about. #

Learning 2.0: A Colorado Conversation (2009 Edition)

Well, we did it earlier this year and most folks asked us to put on a 2009 edition, so we’re doing it again. #

You are invited to attend the Learning 2.0: A Colorado Conversation Conference (2009 Edition).

What is Learning 2.0: A Colorado Conversation?
Learning 2.0: A Colorado Conversation is a one day conference/meetup for teachers, administrators, students, school board members, parents and anyone who is interested in education. It will be held on Saturday, February 21st, 2009, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm at Heritage High School in Littleton, Colorado, USA (different location than last year – here’s a map). We assume most folks will be from Colorado, but everyone is welcome to attend, and we are working on some ideas for virtual participation.

Education is conversation. Conversation creates change. #

The future of education does not exist in the isolated world of theory and abstract conference sessions. Instead, it exists in conversations. It exists in creating a robust learning network that is ever-expanding and
just-in-time. Learning 2.0 is not the beginning of this conversation. It is merely a stopping point, a time to talk about the visible difference that we all seek.

We read. We reflect. We write. We share. We learn.

Come join us for a day of conversation about learning and technology.You can learn much more about the conference on the wiki, including information about registering. Here are some highlights:

Tentative Schedule
We’re still working on the details so this will be updated before the conference. Also, this may expand if we have more folks register than we are anticipating. #

Registration
You must register so that we know how many folks to expect and so that we can have enough lunches available. (Who says there’s no such thing as a free lunch?) #

Cost
Free, baby. And lunch is included, thanks to the generous support of Littleton Public Schools and St. Vrain Valley Public Schools. #

Wireless
BYOL (that would be Bring Your Own Laptop) – we’ll have wireless access to the Internet (filtered) – we may test our capacity to handle density of machines, but hopefully things will go swimmingly. If not, we have wired machines in various places you can access. #

Questions for Students
We’re having a student panel discussion during lunch. Here’s your chance to submit some questions for them to consider. #

Invite Others
We strongly encourage you to invite other folks from your school, district, neighborhood, or learning network to attend as well. It would be great if everyone could bring at least one person with them that is perhaps new to this conversation. Bring a student along, too. (Just remember to register.) #
