    Take wing -
    Take heed -
Find the wind that leads you forward -
    Take care –
    Take stock -
Your journey ahead is marked by what it is you have left behind you after all this time -
    Protection –
Hardly worn yet battered by the breezes, shaken yet never torn from where it stood among the trees -
You emerged anew as a child born again -
    Take flight -
    Take care -
Be gone now and follow the slow arc of the Earth towards your destination-
    Take wing –
    Farewell!

    I stooped to spy
    A butterfly,
    And stuck a thistle
    In my thumb.

    Beheld mine eye,
    The insect guy,
    Then gave a whistle,
    Thumb felt numb.

    In stumbling, I
    Impaled my thigh,
    Upon the thistle,
    Then, my bum.

    Expansive sigh,
    And then did die,
    From toxic thistle,
    I succumb.

I love this. The laughter it prompted and visual effects generated in my overactive imagination were joy to my ribs.

    I was looking around,
    And found something flying,
    Something fluttering around.
    It was an orange butterfly!
    Like a little girl,
    I chased it
    And saw where it went.
    After the orange butterfly
    Flew high in the sky,
    I wondered about that butterfly,
    About its life,
    How it all grows
    To being a pretty one.
I also realized that everything changes,
    Not only in the butterfly,
    But also in me.
    Are changes good?
    Are changes bad?
I have to find out for myself.

I didn’t go for a metamorphosis theme, or talk about the beauty of nature. I took my inspiration from Ray Bradbury’s story – “A Sound of Thunder”.

    The Butterfly Effect

    If a fluttering wing
    Can change a timeline –

    Or treading on a
    Single butterfly
    Forever alters
    The course of humanity

    Imagine what a
    Word can do.

    butterfly
    promises of spring
on a wing and a prayer
    whispering hope, love

I JUST bought a pair of butterfly earrings, so I’m doubly inspired:

    discs of ethereal yellow
    dangle from my ears
etched with wings of delicate shape that might flutter away
