Marks on the wall to describe the universe. Or, rather, its expansion. How would you describe the universe? #

(start at the end)…. the particles
of the chalkdust that appear to be
    rising exponentially,
    mathematically creating wonders
    that only imagination might otherwise
    discover ….

…. i arrive at the chalkboard
in order to hold you off
    with your rectangular eraser
so that my calculations and your expectations
might find a way to resolve
    themselves …..

…. instead, the quarry of calculation eludes us,
so i stumble back through the cloud
    to find my seat,
watching the sunlight from the window
reflect and refract inside … (return to the start)

    The Universe
(With a Tip of the Hat to Captain Kirk)

    A seemingly vast entity
Encompassing the sun, the moon, the stars
Containing life known and perhaps life unknown.
It is space, the final frontier.

And yet,it can be shrunk, minimized to include only
    Tumbling, wrestling children and dogs.
Laughter and music ringing off the walls
It is home, my favorite frontier.

    You + Me = Perfect
    You + Her = Disaster
    You – Me = Unbearable
    You – Her = Reasonable

    Now when I look back,
    I see my mistakes
    But it’s too late
    Our love is at stake
She is better, she is prettier
    Just let me go
    That’s enough
    I promise, I’ll be tough

    When I am pursuing you
    I lose myself
    When I look at myself
    I see what is remained

    Life is a choice
    Not a calculation

I Thought Tonight of My Universe

I thought tonight about the universe
    about everything that ever was
    or will be
about ever expanding masses of (well)
    everything

and then I thought instead of you,
    finite
    knowable
    you

And while I’ll settle for a mystery, you’ll do.

    Finite
    such a big word
    for
    small

    for nothing
    for mortal
    for you.

    I wish
    by adding syllables
    I could add your timeline
    by adding pages
    to the scrapbook
    I could expand your lifetime.

    You abandoned chalkboards
    long ago

I’d gladly scratch out lines of lines
to find an equation to sum you and I
    properly.

    infinity

    which is a bigger word.

    Cartography

    It is in your eyes.
Close them and tattooed on the inside lid,
    constellations will appear –

Shifting pictures of goddesses and cookware,
bears, balanced scales and a winged horse
beckon you to tell their stories.

    Eyes closed; the universe swirls,
    speaks in speeding comets
    and hurtling metaphors.

Eyes open, I see the reflection
of a thousand moons, and they are pulling
    my heart to shore.

oops, I used this prompt for #14. Oh well:

    we assume

    so often

    that love is

    finite

    boundaries with barbed wires

we guard it like a shiny, precious thing

    don’t touch that we scold

    that’s mine

    but the secret of love

    is that it grows

    as a universe grows

    boundaries pushing against infinity

    a trillion tiny suns

    pressing against the dark.

    The universe
    extends far
    beyond
    in infinite ways
than I could ever hope to
    experience
    or
    understand.

    My universe
    extends
    in finite ways
to the people in my life
and the way they connect me
to influence and be influenced by
    others.

    I cannot
    hope
    to ever
    fully
    comprehend
    either.

    MY EYES

    Marks on the board
    all looking completely brain-missing
But some one had to know
the squiggles, lines, and curving up like vines
    some one had to know
    luckily they knew
and there is that little two
in my eyes it’s called confusion
in theres it’s simply just an exponent
while it goes and confusses you and I
complication is different between ones eyes
confusion is commonly known to you and me
commonly known like something you couldnt forget
like something with a world effect
