If only
it were all just crayons;
my wide fingers could color outside the lines
every time.
Instead, I’m being told again to:
draw this
draw that
follow the numbers to form a shape
listen to what’s being said
pay attention –
while in my mind, I am silently melting colors
to reconfigure the rainbow.
Colored wax to mimic the world
blues to open the sky and wet the ocean,
the sun shines down in scribbles of yellow
on green grass and trees and hills,
brown mountains to climb
and white snow caps to view from afar.
I choose red & pink & yellow again to dot the corners with flowers, scattered by purple scents.
Drops of rain make my colors mix
then warm breezes dry this beautiful earth in spring.
If only
it were all just crayons;
my wide fingers could color outside the lines
every time.
Instead, I’m being told again to:
draw this
draw that
follow the numbers to form a shape
listen to what’s being said
pay attention –
while in my mind, I am silently melting colors
to reconfigure the rainbow.

An Ode to the Spring Earth
Colored wax to mimic the world
blues to open the sky and wet the ocean,
the sun shines down in scribbles of yellow
on green grass and trees and hills,
brown mountains to climb
and white snow caps to view from afar.
I choose red & pink & yellow again to dot the corners with flowers, scattered by purple scents.
Drops of rain make my colors mix
then warm breezes dry this beautiful earth in spring.
I left the little boy out of this one…I’m enjoying my weekend, student free!
