		<description>For me that in-between space is interesting in a lot of ways.  It reminds me of ARGs and the way people are playing with narratives that play out online and in the real world, in text and multimedia.  The additional ways the stories change based on interactions with the audience is really interesting to me.  It seems this kind of writing fits in a lot of in-between spaces (school/home, fun/learning, real/electronic, text/media, narrative/puzzle)

I am a firm believer in repertoire.  That is the content of edtech teachers.  You have to have a series of &#039;moves&#039; that flow from your content and through the tools.  If you have Hitchcock on your iPod touch then the content can flow through you and then back to you then back.  The key is to choose the tools that facilitate the free and easy movement from the mind and back to the mind.

		<description>great blog post, Bud. i lost my rambling early morning coffee&#039;d up tome of a response b/c i apparently didn&#039;t fill in all the correct information. prob not a bad thing, i might have put some words in your mouth. the skinny though: agree that the in vs. out-of-school conversation is an important one. on one hand, i dont want to ditch the public schools in mississippi--how vibrant (to steal Reneah Hobbs sp? word from the youth voices panel last night) to embed youth media composition in our schools when were buying SmartBoards and using them for LCD screens. however, i find myself looking for other venues--afterschool and summer spaces--for the path of least resistance and for the option to create a &quot;space&quot; somewhat different from school, visually, expectationally (i just made that word up), etc. thanks for your thoughtful post and i got a glimpse of Digital Is...i&#039;ll admit i was jealous i wasn&#039;t there but these posts are a fantastic way for me to hear and see what happened. thanks john bishop

This point resonated with me:

&quot;It seems like many (but certainly not all) of the projects I looked at today were created in semi-school environments.  By that, I mean that they were created in after-school programs or through work that students are engaged in outside of the traditional classroom. &quot;

I&#039;m finding that a lot of the interesting work I do with composing (great term, by the way) DOES take place outside of the regular classroom, primarily because I&#039;m under constant pressure to follow a pacing guide and to get through massive curricula inside the regular classroom.

And that makes me wonder about a lot of things:

1.  Does that create a new avenue for achievement gaps?  Will students who can stay after school because mom can come and pick them up have skill sets that other students won&#039;t have access to? 

2.  Will teachers who are mastering these kinds of skills with students in outside clubs eventually become the disrupting force that Christensen and company talk about in Disrupting Class----offering opportunities that can&#039;t be accessed in the regular classroom and then translating that work to new learning settings?

3.  Would that be a bad thing, or is it exactly the kind of change we need in schools?
