Is it the absence or the presence
that makes the greatest difference?

Can I know with devoid of out?

Must I be forsaken before
I know I’m loved?

Can I feel the chill of cold yet never touch the heat?

Would I ring with empty laughter
if I never knew despair?

Can I see all of the colors if I never know they’re there?

Is it worth the cost of knowing
if it means you can’t be here?

like the empty husks of corn
scattered on fallow fields
the pink ichor used up
in ambrosia
in flowing lines
in bold flair
in vibrant vitality
now lies in tumult with perhaps
others of lesser lives lived
but with the soul knowing
of a life well spent

Bright fuchsia pink
reminds me of the ’80′s
more specifically
my MUST have pink jelly shoes
and the marks they
left on my feet for hours
they were so obnoxiously sweaty
and not at all made for summer
but I wore them anyway
and had blisters to prove it
even after I REFUSED
to go anywhere near them again
a month later

Painting the World Pink

I hide the secret
in my pocket
away from prying eyes
so that no one ever sees
how I paint the world
in pink

one drop at a time
a little dab here
a little dab there
and no one suspects my motives
as men don’t like pink

‘cept for me
who always saw beauty in the flowers
waving on the hill outside my window in the wind
as I pushed my nose against the glass
and wondered …

why pink is for girls
and blue is for boys
and whose idea was it anyway
to dress me up this way …

I unplug the stopper
dip the ink
and paint the world
pink
